Dynamic EDGE® Installation and Operation Manual

Description

Dynamic EDGE® Panels are constructed of specialty Dynamic Media Blends housed in a plastic frame for the removal of gas-phase contaminants from outdoor, recirculated, and/or exhaust air. Dynamic EDGE Panels are designed to fit in 2” or 4” nominal filter racks or custom filter racks where appropriate. The capacities for each contaminant, initial efficiencies, and the corresponding panel change out schedule will vary depending on the contaminant(s) of concern, contaminant concentration level(s), airflow rates, competitive adsorption between contaminants, temperature, and humidity. The EDGE Panel construction/design promotes tangential flow of air through the panel resulting in low static drop, full utilization of activated carbon and impregnates, and high initial removal efficiency.

Panel Installation

Refer to video below as a supplement for EDGE Panel installation.

The panels can be installed in either a flat or angled array, though in most cases, an angled array is recommended to achieve target media velocities to promote greater residence time.

Panels are marked with a color indicator, blue or green, in one corner of the downstream face of the EDGE Panel. During installation ensure the color indicator corner is positioned in the upper left on the downstream side when looking into the airstream. Panels also feature a label dictating proper directionality of airflow; take note during installation. Failure to install panel in correct orientation will result in decreased performance.

Use blank-offs and/or gasketing (provided by others) as needed to ensure panels seal on both ends of the filter rack. Ensure the overall rack array is flashed and sealed as necessary to prevent air bypass.  Poor seal can lead to bypass of contaminants, resulting in increased breakthrough.

At minimum, a MERV 8 pre-filter is recommended to prevent dirt and dust from occluding the openings in the media. Buildup of dirt and debris can block or blind the airstream’s access to the panel media and may result in decreased capacities and efficiencies.  Enhanced prefiltration, such as Dynamic’s 2” Air Cleaners or V8s will not only remove particulates but can also remove 40-60% of VOCs in a single pass protecting and increasing the expected life of the EDGE.

Panel Maintenance

To keep the panels and overall system performing optimally, the system must be properly maintained. EDGE media does not physically deteriorate over time; however, it can become occluded with dust and debris if the particulate prefilters are not properly maintained. Periodically perform visual inspection of the panels.  If any of the EDGE media is blocked, contaminated air will not flow uniformly through the system and will unevenly consume the media capacity. Physically obstructed media will also result in higher system pressure drop by restricting the airflow through the media.

Ensure pre-filtration is maintained in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.

Panel Replacement

The EDGE panel change out schedule will vary depending on the application. There is no visual indication for when panels need to be replaced. Dynamic can offer engineering support to better understand the application environment and assist in determining a change out schedule. Dynamic offers a lifetime analysis service to help determine this schedule, more information can be found here or by scanning the QR code provided with the panels.

Panels should be replaced immediately if there is a known increase in contaminant levels or sources outside of those expected during typical operation.
